Washingtonian Award-Winning Obstetricians and Gynecologists (OBGYNs): An obstetrician is a Doctor who specializes in pregnant patients by following them throughout their three trimesters, delivers their beautiful baby, and even treats their post-partum phase (after delivery). It is wonderful to have one provider who knows and cares about you throughout this important part of your life. A gynecologist is a Doctor who specializes in treating diseases of the female reproductive organs, such as sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), endometriosis, and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Our OBGYNs specialize in treating high-risk obstetric patients, advanced maternal age mothers, and so much more. They also perform numerous surgeries such as tubal ligations, Cesarean-sections, hysterectomies, and more.
OBGYN Nurse Practitioner (NP): Our Nurse Practitioner focuses on female sexual and reproductive health, pregnancy, and delivery. The NP in this role delivers primary health care to women of all ages (adolescence, childbearing, and advanced age). This includes annual womanly exams, cancer screening, and preventative healthcare (pap smears, mammograms, bone density scans, immunizations). Our NP also performs prenatal management, family planning, and fertility.
Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs): Our Certified Nurse Midwives have a strong interest in women’s gynecological health, prenatal, and postnatal care. They are considered an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), and have picked this specific field due to their eternal passion for women’s healthcare. One of their most important jobs is to deliver your baby in a natural and safe way. They do this by monitoring both mothers and babies during delivery to ensure safety. Did we mention that they also deliver your baby as well? Apart from that, CNMs provide care beyond pregnancy. They are also Nurse Practitioners who specialize in gynecology and can treat common primary care issues experienced by women across the lifespan. This includes urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted infections, skin infections, depression, acne, headaches, painful periods, irregular periods, peri-menopausal discomforts and much more. They are licensed to write prescriptions, order lab work, and radiology tests. They are an integral part of OBGYN healthcare and we are honored to have them.
Registered Nurses (RNs): The foundation of Registered Nursing practice is to provide health care management, disease prevention, and health promotion for their patients. They assist the Doctors and staff with new prescriptions and refills, call and interpret results of labs, procedures, and imaging you have performed, and answer your phone calls about any questions that you have or experience from symptoms of a cold to flare-ups of a gynecological condition.
